Walters Architects have just started works on a large extension to a Grade II Listed Building situated within a Conservation Area in Quorn, Leicestershire.

The design includes building on stilts (all buildings should be on stilts) over a flood defense wall to produce a predominately glazed structure which will maximise views of this stunning garden.

We are all super excited about this one. More images to follow.

In Local News…

Images for the new HQ of local clothing company Joules keep popping up in our local press.

It’s great to see such a prominent local company expanding whilst staying close to their roots. They plan to build a 60,000 sq ft head office in Market Harborough, where the company began.

We wish them all the best and hope the build goes well.

Very Clever

This very smart reinvention of the London town house has also been short listed for the RIBA House of the Year 2018.

The structure is made up of reinforced concrete loops which used corrugated steel cladding for shutter work. This approach has left a ribbed exterior finish which contributes to the buildings detail.

The building is over 3 floors with a private roof top terrace. The interior is open and light but maintains traditional domestic proportions.

We feel the circular form really contributes to this end of terrace formation and is a great contemporary addition to an otherwise traditional street.

We wish architects/owner/developers, Chance de Silva, all the best for next weeks results.

Another Stunner

This stunning home situated on the side of a loch (hence the name Lochside House) in Scotland by Hayson Ward Miller Architects has been short listed for RIBA house of the year 2018. It has been constructed using highly insulated SIP panels with burnt larch cladding and is ‘totally off grid.’

Not just green and practical but also very attractive.

This is a really contender in our opinion.

Steel Frame Installation

The steel frame has been installed and the roof is being fitted on the small contemporary extension and refurbishment project we are working on in Leicestershire. We are looking forward to the props coming out so the client can fully appreciate the space.

We also visited a door showroom with the client and met with a window specialist today to thrash out more detail.

The main roof is coming off next week so we hope the weather holds off for a bit longer.

Exciting stuff.

Foster an Opinion

Foster + Partners have submitted a planning application for this visitors/conference/education center and viewing tower in the centre of London, close to his famous Gerkin (30 St. Mary Axe) building. This new proposal is for the same owner of the Gerkin and you can see some similarities.

We, in the office, are not sure about this one. It just feels a little too alien for our taste.

Different for different sake?

Mind Changing

GRAND DESIGNS: HOUSE OF THE YEAR 2018 03 02 01

Having now watched the whole of the first episode of Grand Designs RIBA House of the Year (Channel 4- 07.11.19) we have changed our minds about who should win. Our last Blog post on the subject (14.11.18) suggested we might vote for the Red House in London. That’s now all changed as we are absolutely in love with the Pheasant House on the banks of the Thames in Henley.

The house by Sarah Griffiths + Amin Taha is an absolute beauty.

There are three more episodes to go so we may change our minds again.

It’s only small but…

This small domestic project has made the world of difference to this home and the clients are delighted.

We hadn’t worked with this contractor before but found them very clean, professional and helpful. They suggested a couple of ideas which really improved the scheme, and we always welcome this. We will certainly be including them on our Tender list for similar size projects.

We cant wait to see the end results.

This proposed barn conversion and stable block conversion went into planning last week.

We are all excited by the prospect of working on the scheme next year.

We are looking forward to the SIP panels arriving, the roof going on and the building being formed.

Should be water tight in a few weeks.
